Learning objectives

K2's Train the Trainer course develops  not only the confidence to lead an effective in person or virtual training program, also the knowledge and skills required to support and model the required behaviour of an experienced trainer.
Create a framework to follow for your next training session, incorporating best practices as well as adult principles of learning. Strike a balance to deliver content with passion and enthusiasm, provide ample opportunities to apply the knowledge using relevant activities, encourage and provide regular feedback. This sequence  improves self awareness and invites participants to see areas for improvement as well as celebrate their accomplishments.
Some topics covered are: time management, classroom set up, presentation skills, Facilitation skills, promote learner participation and collaboration. Create healthy group dynamics to support learning, demonstrate active listening, interpreting non verbal cues, handle problem learners.

Develop facilitation skills: Ensure you are attracting and hiring the right talent for your organization. Work through assessment.

Refine presentation skills: Becoming more self aware and shifting your mindset to become more relatable to your team. Assess the emotions of your team, manage them to cultivate the culture you desire and improve the team dynamics.

Master Instructional skills: How you perceive yourself vs how you are perceived by others

Facilitation Skills

As a facilitator your role is to deliver content where required and allow the session to flow organically. Encourage participation, group dialogue, share different perspectives, challenge each others ideas and step in when needed. Create a safe environment and invite the participants to try out new ideas, explore their curiosity and evaluate their own learning while moving towards their goals.

Learning Styles

Most people have a preferred learning style, this is personal however some content warrants specific delivery styles to support the desired outcomes. Introduce the various delivery styles and allow participants to see what best aligns with them and their objective.

Observe learnerss who naturally like to work alone and those who feel comfortable in a group, invite them to try different learning models.

Setting up and managing the room (In person / Virtual)

Effective classroom set up  provides better control as a facilitator and supports the best learning experience and outcomes for the group. Design is  based on size of group, required interaction for group learnings, breakouts and to manage difficult learners, if need be. You have the freedom and flexibility to change the room set up as needed as well as to add variation throughout the day to improve conversations, refresh stale energy and manage the classroom dynamics.

Presentation Skills

As a facilitator, you must model the, presentation skills, engagement and behaviours that you  expect of the participants. Manage your own nerves, language, pace, poise to demonstrate your expertise.
Through practice you can confidently  lead by example.Maximize the learning experience and transfer your confidence to your future trainers.

Mastering Communication

Deliver content clearly and concisely. Check for understanding. Take the "I do, you do" approach. Share content then invite group to complete one thing at a time and avoid overwhelm. Their response determines the clarity of your message.

Structure your communication in a way that is easy for your audience to understand, verbal and non verbal

Incorporate story telling in to your delivery, awaken their emotions and share your "why"

Paint a clear picture in their eye, allow them to vividly see your message

Practice active listening, ensure they feel heard  to best support their growth

Set clear expectations, keep your communication simple-  easy to understand and implement

Managing vocal

35% of communication represents your tone. Inflections, pausing, pace, articulation all influence the level of engagement and meaning behind your message. Hold your audiences attention by managing your vocal expertise. In virtual training, we need to rely more  on tone as our body language isn't as prominent as in face to face settings.

Pause. Pause for effect, build suspense before or after delivering a bold statement

Instructional Skills

A successfully delivered program/ meeting is defined by your level of clarity as a facilitator. Are your instructions clear? Are you explaining the why behind your ask, gain consensus of the group to change or try something different. Demonstrating with examples, personal stories, inviting group involvement by re-directing questions to the group and provide feedback and positive encouragement all while supporting adult principles of learning.

Discussion

Create an inclusive environment, invite involvement, collaboration and share new group ideas through various types of discussion, avoid the same person monopolizing the conversation. Leverage different points of view, perspectives, opinions based on size, learning styles, objectives and experience level of the group.

Mastering communication

As a facilitator are you clear in your mind what you want to convey to your audience? Language is important and less is more, use simple easy to understand action oriented words.

Providing Feedback

Self awareness and self assessment are important, however feedback from the facilitator as well as the peers is critical to support continuous learning. Encourage self reflection after an exercise or after the course- what they did well? what they would do differently?
How to deliver feedback in an honest, constructive and respectful manner, to support the learning and promote vulnerability to try on new ways of thinking.

Gaining permission to offer feedback

Align feedback with mindset, mood- are you in the right head space to focus on the other person?

Consistency is key- Regular feedback, not just with the wins and losses

Is it constructive? Is there learnings build in or is it damaging to their confidence?

Feedback framework, deliver in 2-3's- start with positive, needs improvement, end with positive

Can I sign up as an individual or does my whole team need to sign up together?

We support either option. We are happy to train a team within an organization in person or virtually. We also offer open sessions where individuals can sign up and attend on their own.

What type of practice do I get in this program? Theory is good but I want the hands on experience?

Application of knowledge is a large part of our programs. To be effective we need to know you not only understand the content but can apply to a diverse audience in different settings. Our program provides ample opportunity to create lesson plans, deliver content, provide feedback,  lead group discussions, conduct Q&A both in person and live. Both participant and our instructors provide feedback for you, in addition we video tape some of the live session for your own review.

Our company only uses Microsoft Teams, can you support this platform?

We work with all virtual platforms to support your learning needs. We want to ensure you are comfortable on your own platform so the technology is secondary and you can focus on the content and engaging your audience
